The Temple of Sobek near the village of Kom Ombo is dedicated to the crocodile god and this theme can be seen on many of the pillars and temple walls. In ancient times crodiles used to bask in the sun on the sandy banks of the river. Not anymore. Now huge Nile cruise ships dock and out pour hundreds of tourists. The Egyptians mumified some of the crocs and deposited them in the complex. Two tiny ones can be seen in an annex, but at the Cairo Museum you can see a real monster that came from here.
